Spring Fly Fishing in Snowstorms!

Stay Home or Fish In The Snow...Hmmmm

What a great weekend we had up in the Hills at a Favorite River. We had the place to ourselves, I wonder why. Nothing like having 8-10" fall overnight to shut down traffic and shut down the road...literally.

Brian joined me again for another exciting weekend. I'm glad we stayed at the cabin this time and decided not to camp out. Chilly weather and 20-30mph winds didn't help either for catching nice fish.

Lot's of good hatches but picky eaters. Glad we used tiny #22-24 patterns to fool these tough fish. Can't wait to get back again despite by fingers not talking to me anymore.

Portland Trip Minus The Fish!

Portland was a Treat!

I was finally able to make it to Portland recently. I have always wanted to make it to Portland for years and even wished to make it to Seattle, but that didn't happen this trip.

My trip happened out of a new job I started so this more of a Business trip as opposed to a Fishing trip. My companies HQ is located here in Portland and I was fortunate enough to spend a full week here.

Most of my trip was based indoors in a stuffy Trainibg class, but when given the opportunity to get outside, I took it. Yes it rained every day but would you expect anything less for Portland?

Portland is known for many things and this extremely large Fly Fishing section was very impressive while browsing at Powell's, one of the largest Bookstore's in the country.

I can't be in Portland without going to Deschute's Brewing as well!

I was trying to make a stayover for the weekend to do some fishing but couldn't get a good return flight. One of my fishing Pal's Ryan Davey asked me to join him for some Steelheading on some local water. As much as I tried to, I wasn't able to fish some outstanding water. Thanks for the invite again Ryan and expect me to give you a call for a raincheck..literally!

Colorado Trout Unlimited "Protect Our Rivers" License Plate is Moving Forward

Colorado Trout Unlimited

The "Protect Our Rivers" license plate is moving forward in the Colorado Senate!
Thanks to strong bipartisan support in the 2013 legislature, we are renewing our effort to create the Protect Our Rivers license plate.
Senators Andy Kerr (D) and Randy Baumgardner (R) are the Senate co-sponsors of legislation establishing this new plate. Representatives Millie Hamner (D) and Jared Wright (R) are the co-sponsors in the House. Representative Mike McLachlan (D) has also signed on.

On Tuesday, April 9, the bill to establish a Protect Our Rivers license plate passed its first committee – Senate Transportation – on a unanimous 5-0 vote. The bill next passed Senate Appropriations earlier this week on a tighter 4-3 vote, and could come up for a vote on the Senate floor before the end of the week.
Once authorized by legislation, the plate will be available to all CO residents through a tax-deductible contribution of $25 to Colorado Trout Unlimited (plus payment to DMV for the physical plates themselves). 100% of the funds donated will be used locally to protect, conserve and restore Colorado rivers.

You can help today by calling your state Senator and urging them to vote for the Protect Our Rivers license plate. Tell them that a plate to celebrate Colorado's rivers is a good idea, and will help raise much-needed funds to reinvest in river conservation projects. All State Senators can be reached in Denver at either 303-866-6866 (for Republican Senators) or at 303-866-6865 (for Democratic Senators).

We secured more than enough signatures in our prior effort to establish this plate, but feel free to sign the petition if you would like to be kept apprised of the bill’s progress and availability of the plate via email. And thank you for supporting Colorado’s rivers!
