High Park Fire a Mixed Blessing For Wildlife
For many people living in the foothills, the High Park Fire has meant the loss of homes and livelihoods.
For animals and wildlife living in the burn area, the fire is a mixed blessing. Some wildlife habitat could be improved by the fire, while other habitat is being completely destroyed.
Depending on the severity of the blaze, some species could be utterly wiped out.
For now, animals are scattering in the wake of the blaze — something some Fort Collins residents saw first hand last weekend when a moose swam across Horsetooth Reservoir to find shelter from the fire
Wildfire threatens to cast shadow on Colorado summer
ESTES PARK, COLO. — Making his descent from the mountaintop Thursday morning, bicyclist Kent Bell rolled smack into the filmy haze coating this resort town. Forty miles away, near Friday's finish line of the Ride the Rockies endurance test, one of the largest fires in Colorado history raged out of control.
Over the last few days, insulated by clear skies to the west, the 36-year-old rider had heard there was a wildfire somewhere out in the forest, but he wasn't sure where. Then he saw the smoke.

Natures way of renewing. It's unfortunate that modern man sometimes gets in the way.

I completely agree Shoreman. I'm just glad the death toll is very small and hopefully this is not the start of a catastrophic Summer in Colorado.
