Save The Tarpon

Stewards of the Boca Grande Tarpon Fishery and proponents of ethical angling

The Save the Tarpon campaign and SaveTheTarpon.com were created through the collaboration and cooperation of those who advocate for ethical angling and promote the stewardship of the Boca Grande Pass Tarpon fishery. We believe in the use of responsible and environmentally sensitive fishing techniques to protect this historically and culturally significant fishery

Protect & preserve the Tarpon and their habitat. Sign The Petition Here

We strongly oppose, and call for the immediate termination of, the Professional Tarpon Tournament Series (PTTS) in Boca Grande, Florida. Our opposition stems from the destructive, unethical fishing practices and unsportsmanlike conduct promoted by this for-profit fishing tournament and television show. The disruptive fishing methods endorsed by the PTTS and employed by it’s participants are causing the Tarpon to change their movement, feeding, and spawning behaviors. Behaviors which had, until now, been unchanged for thousands of years. The change in these patterns has already deteriorated the quality of the fishery.

We will work tirelessly to bring awareness to this important cause and to fight for the preservation and future health of the Boca Grande Pass Tarpon fishery.

Help us end the unnecessary destruction of this precious resource by a for-profit private entity. Join us and say “no” to the PTTS, it’s sponsors, affiliates and participants.

Colorado Wildfires Signal One of State's Worst Seasons Ever

High Park Fire a Mixed Blessing For Wildlife

For many people living in the foothills, the High Park Fire has meant the loss of homes and livelihoods.

For animals and wildlife living in the burn area, the fire is a mixed blessing. Some wildlife habitat could be improved by the fire, while other habitat is being completely destroyed.

Depending on the severity of the blaze, some species could be utterly wiped out.

For now, animals are scattering in the wake of the blaze — something some Fort Collins residents saw first hand last weekend when a moose swam across Horsetooth Reservoir to find shelter from the fire

Wildfire threatens to cast shadow on Colorado summer

ESTES PARK, COLO. — Making his descent from the mountaintop Thursday morning, bicyclist Kent Bell rolled smack into the filmy haze coating this resort town. Forty miles away, near Friday's finish line of the Ride the Rockies endurance test, one of the largest fires in Colorado history raged out of control.

Over the last few days, insulated by clear skies to the west, the 36-year-old rider had heard there was a wildfire somewhere out in the forest, but he wasn't sure where. Then he saw the smoke.

This time of year you need to head up towards the Henrys Fork some serious dry fly action and incredible fishing. Hopefully I can try and make it back there early Fall if possible, otherwise I'll just have to watch a few more videos and dream about the Henrys Fork!

Summer Stillwater Fishing in The Rockies

Stillwater Action is Back

Another great weekend getting back to another a favorite Lake location. With the Summer season here, there is no other place that I want to be. With few crowds, no mosquitos and a few hatches to speak of, this was the perfect weekend!

Light wind helped the fishing even more and with the Chironomid hatch on from 10-1pm, there was plenty of time to catch a few feeders.

Another nice rainbow on the take. 2 on at once was a pretty nice suprise as well, one took a chironomid and one on my streamer rod chasing a seal bugger.

I don't think you can camp any closer to the water. This is one of my favorite spots in all of Colorado, great weather, few crowds and good fishing.

Pete enjoying a nice morning out casting to a few risers with some antelope in the background. Great morning out again with very few crowds.

BocaDawg enjoying about 20 risers out by the campsite

Photo Slideshow: Snorkeling for Greenback Cutthroat

Photo Slideshow: Snorkeling for Greenback Cutthroat

Last Friday I punished myself with a four mile hike, up a couple thousand feet in to Rocky Mountain National Park to try and get a glimpse of the underwater world of the greenback trout in one of my favorite "close lakes" to fish. I brought my underwater housing, dry suit, snorkel, and way too much camera gear. Like 50 or 60 pounds worth... The premise was to shoot some underwater footage for a book project that I'm working on with friend Geoff Mueller, and show a handful of my friends the fishery.

Weekend Hacks...Chasing Tarpon!

What is my Favorite Species to chase? Tarpon without a doubt and whenever May/June roll around I can not get enough reports as to how Tarpon fishing is doing in South Florida. My buddy Colin just moved down that way and is already loving it, depsite missing Alaska. My other pal Dave just got back from a week in the Keys and boated 3 Poon so lot's of good fishing.

I can't wait to get back down there again soon myself, maybe a trip this Fall!
