Exxon Oil Spill Hits The Yellowstone River in Montana

Laurel, Mont. --

Exxon Mobil Corp. acknowledged under political pressure Monday that the scope of its oil pipeline leak into the Yellowstone River could extend far beyond a 10-mile stretch of the famed waterway.

As the company intensified its cleanup of tens of thousands of gallons of spilled crude, Exxon Mobil Pipeline Co. President Gary Pruessing pledged to do "whatever is necessary" to find and mop up oil from the 12-inch pipeline that broke at the bottom of the river over the weekend.

I don't think you want to get me stated on this subject, I could truly go off about how screwed up this is and how things are looking much worse in the years to follow. If you think a few instances are just what happens, or "this is just a freak accident", better think again, the realty of what will potentially happen to our watersheds and oceans are mind boggling! More to follow..I just have to take a deep breathe and not go on a tangit.

I already boycott Exxon from the spill years ago, Coors products due to their massive spill into Colorado's Clear Creek, BP from their disaster...who next on my list?

By lying about the scope of the spill, Exon just makes their lousy reputation that much worse.
While I understand the cause of this may be from a pipe that was exposed and ruptured due to erosion, this is just the tip of a nation wide iceberg composed of deteriorating infrastructure that this country has neglected for decades. The old saying, "You can pay me now, or you can pay me later" comes to mind. Trouble is it's already later than we think.

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little. That S#$@t makes me sick to my stomach. What's it gonna take for people to realize that oil is not the way to go. Once again wildlife suffers while the oil tycoons line their pockets. Boooh hiss. Tight Lines.

Bob- I completely agree with you and how Exxon reacted to this (as most would) but them especially. They are truly in recovery mode for their reputation once again...good luck with that!!

T-Magee I couldn't agree more with as well and only time will tell I guess. Wildlide will continue to pay for this years to come

Less than one percent of land in America is riparian in nature, yet it is this land that supports a majority of native and migratory wildlife, as well as domestic animals. The destruction of riparian areas in this country is one of the most serious threats to the environment that we face today.
This egregious lack of foresight on the part of Exxon, even in the face of studies that questioned the stability of this pipeline, needs to be addressed by strong criminal penalties, including jail time for corporate CEOs who now consider fines by the EPA as just another cost of doing business. I'm sick of this.
