Costa Rica Vacation..Can't Wait To Get Back For More

Pura Vida Baby

Just returned from another great trip to Costa Rica again! What made this trip more special is that I got to introduce someone else to my favorite fishing country -my girlfriend.

Each time to get back to Costa Rica I gain a new perspective about the people of Central America, the incredible seafood dishes, cold Imperial Cerveza's, easy flights to San Jose (5 hours direct) and most importantly, how easy it is to relax down there.

Yes we were able to find plenty to do each day and the sunsets in this part of the globe are nothing short of spectacular to say the least! Each evening was a treat to watch these and even better to enjoy them with some Cold beers or a fresh Mojito.

While the weather was predicted to be rainy each day, the only thing that dampened our spirits was that I wasn't able to spend more time ut on the water fishing. Yes this was a sweet vacation, a fishing vacation..perhaps not this time, but I still managed to enjoy a day out on the water. The only true mistake I made was our guide. Pez Rey is not somebody I would use again, huge issues with the outfitter than nothing like sitting there for hours bored while our guide tries to figure out what to do, keep me sitting there while other boats are hooking up?? Pepsi our guide was a decent guy he just was a bit clueless this day. One Jack and two breakoffs on Mackeral (use bigger mono guide) were the only thing that came my way. NO Roosterfish made it to my rod so it looks like I lucked out on another Costa Rica trip without any good stories.

Monkeying around at our Hotel Bar each afternoon after a trip to the Playa (beach for those who do not understand Spanglish) made a dip in the pool, more cold beers and Monkeys playing! Yes this is Costa Rica, you never know what to expect.

Gorgeous Pacific waters made for a nice sightseeing trip since the fishing stunk. Clear water, high tides and crazy riptides made for an interesting boat ride that day. There is always plenty to do while in Costa Rica while on vacation, from Sea Kayaking, Canopy zip line tours, Happy Hours, Surfing and visiting local national parks.

*Look for more great reports and pictures this week from our trip...I have a feeling you will enjoy them!

HB 309..Montana's River Issues Are Back Again!

Take A Look
Checkout Chi Wulff for the full story on this important issue

"If this bill passes, it will be illegal for you to fish, swim or float without permission in many popular waters simply because they've been modified by an irrigation structure or include return flows. This list includes main-stems or side-channels of the Beaverhead, Milk, Big Hole, Yellowstone, Jefferson, Bitterroot, Gallatin, upper Clark Fork, and most if not all streams and natural sloughs in irrigated areas. If the bill passes, families, anglers, floaters and guides will be kicked off hundreds of miles of streams we have been using since Montana became a territory."

Back To Fish Costa Rica Again...See You When I see You!

Central America Here I come

It's that time of year again, cold temps outside, too much snow and works bugging you...head to Costa Ricaaaa for a break! Imagine being out on a boat angling in tropical, crystal waters, surrounded by sunshine, fresh air and big fish. If this sounds exciting to you, a Costa Rica fishing vacation could be something for you in the near future!

I'm returning to one of my favorite locations around. What makes Costa Rica so nice is not the fact that you can get there via Frontier in 5hrs, the cost is muy cheapo or that the fishing is incredible, but the fact that I need a break from work and my girlfriend has been bugging me to take her there.

Hopefully I'll return with a great report from catching grande Roosterfish, Sailfish or anything else I can get on a fly rod!

VĂ©ale luego yo me voy Costa Rica

Colorado Has More Ailing Dams, Less Money To Fix Them

Those Dam Budget Shortfalls
By Bruce Finley Article Link

Colorado has so many deficient dams restricted from holding water that, if owners were to fix them, the state would gain four Chatfield Reservoirs worth of coveted water-storage capacity.

A review of state dam safety records also shows that a breach at any of 21 "high hazard" dams today likely would kill people living or working nearby. Failures at another 33 deficient "significant hazard" dams would cause major property damage.

But dam repairs can cost millions of dollars, and Colorado Department of Natural Resources officials say they lack funds to help owners make repairs.

Thanks For My Daily Reminders "Wildlife Council"

Coming To A Street Near You!

I just wanted to throw a quick thanks to the Wildlife Council for making my daily commutes much more appeasing. To those who live in Denver or better yet, those who may drive down Denver's popular Broadway strip may have seen this billboard jumping out at passerby Outdoor enthusiast. To me it's a nice reminder each day when I leave my house for work and when I return seeing how this lovely sign is a block from my house and showcases one of my favorite fish species -the Salmo trutta. Nothing like a big brown trout to get me going each morning!

Now for the message of the Wildlife Council, you knew there was a point to this right? The Colorado Wildlife Management Public Education Advisory Council (Council) was created by the Colorado legislature in 1998 within House Bill 1409. The legislation created the Council’s mission in statute.

The mission as stated is to design and develop a comprehensive media program to educate the public, especially the urban public, about the values of wildlife, wildlife management and how hunting and fishing are important in the wildlife management equation. HB-1409 was created in part because of the grass roots efforts of the Colorado Wildlife Conservation Coalition (CWCC), a nonprofit, political action committee and corporation, formed in 1997, composed of sportsmen, wildlife and agriculture/livestock organizations. Winter Fly Fishing For Carp in The Rockies...Bring Your Shorts!

Wet Wading in The Winter...Little Crazy

Well as I type this it's a high of 5' degrees today here in the Mile High City but a few days ago I was enjoying the perks of living in Denver. Friday it was shorts weather out on the South Platte River for an hour before work, okay maybe light pants weather. Anytime the temp get's above 55' I'm Carpin and finding some shorts to wear to show off these pasty legs!

For those who know me most can tell you that I'm a Carp Addict, wintertime not so much, something to do with piles of snow outside and Carp barely worth a fight. It seems that despite all the snow in the Hills, one of the perks of living in Denver it's our crazy winter weather. January can be -10' degrees outside (like today) or like last week, in the upper 60's??? That's Denver for ya!

Carp fishing on a fly is pretty exciting, whether you get to do it in the Summertime (the best), Springtime or as of late, Wintertime...it's all good! Yes you get more of a fight when the water is warmer and they're more active, but anytime you get can away for some Carp action I'm there.

Denver-Snow

Tried to get my Pal Jake "AKA Carp Slayer and Wiper Master" out but he had gone already on Thurs and was tied up with other business, maybe next time.
Springtime looks to be a good one this year for my Goldens!
